Michael Durrant

Founder and Director of the Brief Therapy Institute of Sydney. A psychologist with an international reputation in Solution-focused Brief Therapy, Michael has consulted to counselling/therapy agencies and teams in Australia and overseas and has presented professional development workshops in North America, Europe & Southeast Asia.

Michael is also Honorary Academic Associate in the Faculty of Education and Social Work at the University of Sydney..

He is a Consultant to the State of Georgia (USA) Department of Human Services on strength-based approaches to child and adolescent treatment and is a consultant to the IFSO program, Spastic Centre of NSW and to adolescent and family programs at UnitingCare Burnside and Anglicare in Sydney.

Michael has had published a number of books and professional articles. His books Residential Treatment (about "competency-based" approaches to adolescent treatment) and Creative Strategies for School Problems (both published by W. W. Norton & Co, New York) have been translated into German, French and Japanese.

Michael has conducted more than 300 professional training workshops and is widely sought after as a speaker and trainer. He has been an invited keynote/plenary speaker at the Queensland Child Protection Conference, the 2nd and 3rd Australian Family Strengths Conferences, the European Brief Therapy Conference, the Queensland Guidance and Counselling Association Conference, the Victorian Child Protection Practice Conference, and others.
