Ian Johnsen
Ian is a psychologist with a broad range of experience.
Ian has LOTS of experience working with adolescents. He has worked for many years in a senior position within the Department of Community Services, working with teenagers in and around Kings Cross and more recently has worked with high school students within schools. He has also been involved with the management of residential services for adolescents/young adults.
Ian also has experience in running group programs, including running groups for men around issues to do with fathering, self-esteem groups and groups within the high school setting. He has explored tyhe use of Solution-focused ideas in other kinds of groups - such as working with an elite school sporting team.
Ian is a key person in developing ideas and resources for implementing a strengths focus in school systems and working with teachers.
At the Brief Therapy Institute of Sydney, Ian is involved in co-presenting training courses on Solution-focused Ideas with Groups and the course "Out of the Office" - about working outside the usual counselling conext (meeting clients in their homes, on the streets, etc.).
Ian is also involved in our "Strengths in Schools" project, offering training and consultation on Solution-focused and strengths-based ideas in the school context.
