Supervision for registration as a psychologist in NSW
The Brief Therapy Institute of Sydney offers a program of supervision for people who wish to work towards meeting the requirements of the NSW Psychologists Registration Board. The program covers all the areas specified by the Board but is particularly aimed at intern psychologists who wish to include an emphasis on the Solution-focused approach.
Intern supervision is provided by Michael Durrant and Frances Huber, both of whom are Board-accredited supervisors.
More than 18 people have successfully completed their internship through the Brief Therapy Institute of Sydney, with individual supervision from Michael as well as small group supervision with other interns.
Please note that we are NOT able to offer a placement for your internship. Interns who undertake supervision with us have a job, position or placemen elsewhere (one that meets the Board's requirements in terms of involving "psychological work") and then seek to engage us as external supervisors - EITHER because there is no suitable psychologist at their workplace who can offer supervision OR because they have a particular interest in the supervision we offer.
Please note that the number of intern psychologists to whom we can provide supervision at any one time is limited.
The NSW Registration Board's NEW Supervision Guidelines
The NSW Psychologists Registration Board introduced new supervision guidelines and requirements at the beginning of 2006, and these have continued to change through to 2009. Previously, any psychologist who has been registered for more than 3 years could act as a psychologist for interns. Under the new guidelines, supervisors must be approved and must have undertaken specific supervisor training. As well as being an Approved Supervisor, Michael is one of the small group selected by the Registration Board to provide training to psychologists seeking approval as a supervisor.
The new guidelines include more detailed paperwork and reporting requirements, different ways that the various requirements may be met and more detail about the areas to be covered and the competencies to be achieved.
We are able to meet - and assist you with - the Board's current supervision requirements.
Email Michael - michael@briefsolutions.com.au - if you wish to discuss supervision towards psychologist's registration.
