Solution-focused Brief Therapy: A comprehensive introduction
presented in MELBOURNE by Michael Durrant
This popular course provides a comprehensive introduction to the theory and practice of Solution-focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and its application to a range of counselling settings.
It includes an overview of the Solution-focused approach and how it fits within the broader "strengths-based" approaches and within the family therapy field. Participants are introduced to the skills and tools of SFBT - the main forms of questioning and interventions. Videotape examples of ACTUAL therapy sessions complement the discussion and the skills practice exercises.
The course changed my previous paradigm of focussing on "the problem" and then (me) suggesting "solutions" and showed me how to bring out the clients' strengths so they can catch themselves doing things better. It was an enlightening, stimulating experience with several, major "Ah ha" moments — I feel excited and motivated to implement this approach to benefit my clients.
— Maj Gary Dodd, Psychologist, Department of Defence
The course gave me a great structure for my sessions within an evidence-based framework that seems to be brief and more efficient. I appreciated the presenter's passion and thorough understanding of the topic and therapy.
— Candice Selahovic, Mental Health Professional, McKesson Asia-Pacific
The course has given me a framework which will help my counselling be more focussed and goal-directed. I envisage there will be positive outcomes for clients. It was great to share the learning with the group — everyone's input helped the learning process. Also, the DVD therapy sessions were really helpful.
— Shannon O'Brien, Social Worker, Autism Queensland
I feel more confident using the techniques. I now am aware of some important things you cannot learn just by reading about the approach but learn from SEEING case examples and transcripts of real therapy. I can think of many students/clients I would like to use the approach with.
— Rebecca Bouffler, School Counsellor/Intern Psychologist,
NSW Department of Education & Training
